Lying dormant among the long grass of Scotland’s most easterly shores for far too long, The Waxing Quarter is hereby unleashed: a collaboration of multi-instrumentalist songwriters and producers John Ferguson, Iain Bruce and Liam Clark.
Individually, the trio have each traversed rich and rewarding creative paths leading to eventual convergence and the project’s inception – including dalliances with major labels, countless intermedia collaborations, extensive periods working with some of the world’s leading music producers (among them Ken Nelson, David Botterill and Chris Potter) and tackling musicology doctorates.
Thematically, the music draws inspiration from the world it inhabits, and the people (including ghosts) caught up in its orbit. The result is an epic and unforgettable journey into the joy and pain of love, heartbreak and healing; the loss of what we never really had; the dream of what could have been; the acceptance and celebration of what is and what could still be - if we want it enough.
Underpinned by timeless and elegant songwriting, nuanced with a modern and atmospheric aesthetic that will keep you guessing, it’s a dynamic and reassuring presence that welcomes you in. At the same time mournful and uplifting, The Waxing Quarter mine the depths of human emotion to find enlightenment, optimism and closure.
